Travelling abroad is often very safe if you visit destinations that are designed for tourists. Things can still go wrong though – pickpockets are all over the world, and there is always going to be crime going on. If you are abroad and you feel like your safety has been threatened, it might be difficult to know who to contact.
Make a point of finding out the local police number and storing it in your phone so that if anything does happen, you can contact them immediately. It might also be worth learning a few words of the language to help you in emergency situations.
If you feel unsafe, let someone know as soon as possible. Even if it is just a passer by, make them aware that your safety is threatened and ask if they can contact the police for you. If you are in a public area, go into a shop or restaurant to ask for help.
